The memory of the holy martyr Ferapont

This saint was the patron saint of the Sardinian church; he converted many of the pagan Hellenes to Christ by his teaching and enlightened them by holy baptism. St. Ferapont was taken by Julian the Evangelist and imprisoned in prison; he suffered from hunger and thirst for a long time; being brought out of prison, he was subjected to various torments; then he was bound to Syracuse, Phrygia [Malaysia], and in Antioch, the city of Galatia, he suffered many sufferings.

When the saint was brought to a river called the Atalaia, he was stretched out on the ground naked and bound to four nails driven into the ground; then the tormentors beat the saint so hard that even his skin fell from his body and the ground was saturated with his blood. The nails let out sprouts and sprouted branches and leaves; then grew into large trees and with their leaves healed various ailments and diseases of people.
