The memory of the holy martyr Myron

Saint Miron was the presbyter in Achaia [Ancient Greek region on the Peloponnese peninsula] during the reign of the wicked king Decius [Emperor Decius reigned from 249 to 251]; the egemon of that country was Antipater. The saint came from a noble and wealthy family; he was very meek in character; in his heart he always nurtured a warm love for God and people and led a godly life.

One day, on the feast of the Nativity of Christ, the egemon Antipater entered the Christian temple to take the Christians who had gathered for prayer and torture them; seeing this, Saint Myron was filled with jealousy and forcefully rebuked the egemon and rebuked him. For this he was taken, by the order of the egemon, and subjected to cruel torture: he was hanged on a tree and subjected to severe iron combs; then he was burned with fire; finally he was thrown into a furnace that was very hot and emitting a terrible flame; but at this time a fire came out of the furnace and struck fifty wicked egemon servants who stood nearby; the saint, however, remained alive, consecrated by the grace of Christ, did not suffer any harm, and stood in the midst of God's holy angels, who were blessed and protected by the same fire.

When the furnace was extinguished and the saint came out of it unharmed, the egemon began to force him to worship the idols; but when the saint did not fulfill this wicked command, the egemon ordered the saint's skin to be taken off and cut on the belt, from shoulders to feet. The holy martyr, taking off one belt, threw it in the egemon's face; then he was again subjected to tightening with iron nails over the naked body and then was given to be eaten by the beasts; however, he suffered no harm from them.

Then the egemon Antipater, seeing himself humiliated in all the sufferings of Christ's patient Miron, was filled with anger and rage and killed himself with his own hands; thus the wicked one died with a noise, giving his vile soul to the demons in hell for eternal torment. The holy martyr was taken to the city of Kizik [Kizik City was on the Arctonissus peninsula.] and died there, having been cut off in the head, giving his holy soul into the hands of God [The end of St. Miron followed about 250]. Thus, having received the martyr's crown, he entered into the joy of the Lord.
