The Cathedral of St. Gabriel the Archangel

The memory of the 13th of July of the Annunciator of our salvation, the great servant of God and the joyful messenger to the Most Holy Virgin Mary (Luke 1:26), the Archangel Gabriel, we praise in hymns, composing for him the second time a festive council.

And He taught him in the wilderness the writing of the book, and the creation of the world, and the creation of the first man Adam, and his life and the lives of the patriarchs after him, and the times, and the deluge, and the division of the tongues, and He explained to him the position of the heavens and the signs, and He taught him arithmetic and geometry and all kinds of wisdom.

He explained to the prophet Daniel the miraculous visions of kings and kingdoms to come, which were represented to him in the form of different beasts: he told him about the time of the liberation of God's people from Babylonian captivity, as well as the time of Christ's first coming into the world through the incarnation of the Most Holy Virgin (Dan., chapters 8 and 9).

Anna, Anna, your prayer is heard, your sighs have passed through the clouds, and your tears have reached God. You will conceive and bear a blessed Daughter, by whom all the families of the earth will be blessed. She will be given salvation to the world, and she will be called Mary.

This great Archangel was appointed by God to be the guardian of the barren virgin Mary, and when she was brought into the temple, he fed her, bringing her food daily.

He appeared to the holy priest Zechariah, standing on the right side of the altar of incense, and announced to him the release from the barrenness of his elderly wife Elizabeth and the birth of St. John the Forerunner of the Lord.

This same representative of God, having been sent by God to Nazareth, appeared to the Most Holy Virgin, betrothed to the righteous Joseph, and announced to her the conception of the Son of God by the fall and the action of the Holy Spirit in her. He also appeared in a dream to Joseph, explaining to him that the young girl remained innocent, because what was conceived in her was from the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18-21).

I bring you good news of great joy that will be to all the people, because today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you, who is Christ the Lord".

The angel Gabriel appeared to him and strengthened him, for among other things he had this strengthening in his deeds, and our Lord then prayed fervently (Luke 22:43; Hebrews 5:7). This same angel appeared to the peace bearers sitting on the stone by the tomb, announcing to them the resurrection of the Lord (Matthew, chapter 28; Mark, chapter 16; Luke, chapter 24; John, chapter 20): thus, being the herald of the conception and birth of the Lord, he also appeared as the herald of His resurrection.

He also appeared to the Blessed Virgin Mary, who was praying fervently on the Mount of Olives, and announced to her the approach of her honorable sleep and the transference from earth to heaven, and gave her a bright heavenly branch.

The Holy Church, recalling his many appearances in the Old and New Testaments, and knowing his constant supplication to God for the Christian race, now celebrates a conciliar feast to him, that the people of God may always and earnestly turn to the intercession and help of this intercessor and benefactor of mankind, and by his prayers obtain the remission of sins from Christ our Lord the Saviour.

It was probably consecrated in honor of the Archangel Gabriel.

Trooper, voice 4: Archbishop of the heavenly hosts, we beg you, unworthy ones, that with your prayers, you will envelop us with the shelter of the wingless wings of your glory, keeping us from falling in earnest, and crying out: from troubles deliver us, as the chief of the higher powers.

In the heavens for nothing is the glory of God, and on earth from on high giving grace, chief of the angels wise Gabriel, glory of God to the servant, and the world divine defender, save, observe the crying you: himself a helper, and no one on these.
