The Passion of St. Paul the Martyr and with him the holy martyrs Alevtina and Hionia

These holy martyrs were of Egyptian origin. They were taken to Caesarea and, before the governor for questioning, confessed that Jesus was the true God. For this they first burned their left feet, then cut out their right eyes with knives, and finally, together with other men and women who also believed in Christ, they were burned, from which they died. Before this, St. Hionia was hanged on a tree and severed from the body, her sister Alevtina, threatening the judge, broke the altar with her feet, for which she was subjected to merciless torture, and St. Martyr Paul prayed and pleaded first for the Christians, and then for all the Gentiles, so that they would transition to the knowledge of the true God and persecute the believers in Christ, after which he prayed for them.
