The Passion of the Holy Martyr Marcian

The holy martyr Marcianus, still in his teens, was seized and tortured in the city of Iconium, and afterwards brought to the governor Perennius (in Cappadocia). He courageously denounced the latter in pagan wickedness, and confessed Christ as God and Lord. For this he was beaten on the bones and cheeks; then the torturer, irritated by the rebuking words of the sufferer, was not satisfied with these torments, but ordered to put him on a fiery furnace, and after this to cut out his tongue. When all this was accomplished, and the holy martyr remained firm in faith and continued to confess Christ, he was sentenced to be cut down.
